Mandate
To formulate policies, set standards and coordinate implementation of activities, identify and mobilize resources, ensure uninterupted supply of commodities,supervise, monitor and evaluate implementation of control activities.
The DLTLD is one of the divisions within the department of Preventive and Promotive Services within the Ministry of Health. Formally called National Leprosy & Tuberculosis control Program (NLTP).
The Division has technical representatives at all levels including the province and district levels. At the district level the districts have been divided into control zones dependending on the workload for efficiency in coordination, monitoring & evaluation. At this levels technical staff are responsible for offering technical advice and support implementation of program activities down to the level of the peripheral health units and community based health care initiatives. Implementation of activities is fully integrated into the primary health care system where TB suspects are screened, diagnosed and treated by health care workers under supervision of technical staff.
In 2009 TB and leprosy treatment was delivered through 2,318 health units and 1,030 Smear microscopy services distributed throughout the whole country.
