1. WORLD TB DAY 24th March 2012 COMMEMORATION

The World TB Day is commemorated each year on 24th March. This is an occasion for all of us to reflect on our achievements and role in the fight against TB. The theme for 2012 World TB Day is "Call for a world free of TB” and the slogan is “Stop TB in my life time”.

The World TB Day campaign 2012 implies that people all over the world, from the youngest to the oldest will make the call, “Stop TB in my lifetime”. It is expected that today's children should expect to see a world where no one gets sick with TB. Women and men should expect to see a world where no one dies from TB. We as Kenyans would also like to see a nation where no one gets sick or dies from TB. We believe this campaign will speak to all Kenyans of all ages to take individual take action to stop TB in their life time.

Preparations activities for World TB Day 2012

1. Establish a planning committee
  • Both Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation and Medical services
  • Development partners
  • NGOs
  • Network of people affected by TB/ HIV organizations
  • Provincial administration at all levels
  • Media
  • Other government departments
2. Adopt and develop key messages for World TB Day 2012 guided by the theme
3. Mobilize partners to support the event
4. Plan for media events such as press release and radio talks giving facts about TB
5. Plan build up activities such as;
  • TB Screening
  • Radio talks
  • social mobilization activities etc
6. Identify a venue to commemorate World TB Day
7. Monitor and Evaluate the event

NOTE: There will be a National event to commemorate World TB Day 2012; the venue will be communicated later. All the 12 regions should plan to commemorate World TB day 2012. There is need for the districts to plan the event too.
