The Kenya TB Prevalence survey 2016 provides a precise estimate of the burden of TB and assesses the associated health seeking behaviour of TB patients and those reporting TB symptoms. The survey was conducted through community-level screening of 63,000 people in 45 counties between July 2015 and July 2016 in accordance with the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines. Survey participants were asked a series of questions to assess whether they had TB symptoms and were subjected to a chest x-ray. Those with a cough and/or abnormal chest x-ray were requested to submit a sputum sample for laboratory analysis through the use of microscopy, Gene Xpert and culture.
